Selected ikebana artists will each create a unique arrangement in just six minutes, showcasing their creativity, technical skill, and individual artistic style. Whether you are new to ikebana or already familiar with the art form, this demonstration offers a fascinating opportunity to observe the creative process and gain practical ideas for floral design.

Ikebana is much more than flower arranging. It is a traditional Japanese art that encourages mindfulness, creativity, and a deeper connection with nature. As a healing art form, it can contribute to personal wellbeing, self-expression, and an appreciation of the natural world.

Today, however, the number of ikebana practitioners is declining in Japan, while awareness of ikebana remains limited in many other countries. Opportunities for professional practice are often scarce, particularly in Australia. To ensure that this valuable cultural tradition continues to thrive, it is important to explore new ways for ikebana to engage with contemporary society.

One such opportunity lies in the hospitality industry. Restaurants and cafés increasingly seek distinctive and meaningful ways to enhance their spaces and create memorable experiences for their customers. Ikebana offers a unique artistic solution, bringing elegance, seasonality, and a sense of harmony into commercial environments.

Through this demonstration, we hope to inspire greater appreciation of ikebana’s potential in commercial settings and to encourage new opportunities for practitioners in Australia and beyond.

We are delighted that one of our guest exhibitors from Japan has agreed to participate as a demonstrator for this special event.

Several of our demonstrators are also members of the Wa Melbourne Ikebana Festival Committee. We extend our sincere gratitude for their dedication and contribution to the success of this festival.

Please note:

•  If you are an exhibitor and would like to be a demonstrator, please see Exhibitor Guideline for the details.
• The number of tickets for Ikebana Demonstration is limited. Tickets for this event were sold out every year.
• Tickets may be avilavle on the day with a normal price ($20).
• If you could not obtaine a ticket, please come back to the venue after 2 PM to enjoy the works created by our demonstrators. Abbotsford Convent has several art galleries, beautiful garden, and nice cafes.
