Shoan Lo is an Australian ikebana artist, a fully qualified Grade 2 Sogetsu Ikebana teacher, and a facilitator of the online Ikebana Dojo. Trained under renowned Sogetsu teacher Shoso Shimbo, her work explores the relationship between contemporary floral art, space, and nature.
An award-winning artist, Shoan received First Prize in the Botanical Moments at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show in both 2025 and 2026. Her work includes a permanent collaborative metal sculpture created with Shoso Shimbo for Le Pine Funerals in Kew East, Victoria.
Shoan is passionate about sharing ikebana through teaching, exhibitions, and community engagement. Since 2019, she has been a Project Manager of the Wa Melbourne Ikebana Festival, helping to foster cultural exchange and celebrate the diversity of contemporary ikebana. She also serves as Associate Director of the Ikebana Gallery Award and Secretary of the International Society of Ikebana Research (ISIR).
Alongside her artistic practice, Shoan researches the therapeutic potential of ikebana. Her publications include Ikebana Workshop for Kids: Findings on Conducting Ikebana Workshops for Young Children (International Journal of Ikebana Studies, Vol. 7, 2019) and Exploring the Benefits of Ikebana for Seniors: A Study on Its Mindfulness Potential (2025), reflecting her ongoing commitment to advancing ikebana through education, research, and wellbeing.
