Thank You for Being Part of the Melbourne Ikebana Festival 2026
Dear Artists,
Thank you very much for exhibiting your work at the Melbourne Ikebana Festival 2026. We are delighted to share that 876 people attended the festival, exceeding our original target.
Ikebana is not yet a major part of Australia’s contemporary art and cultural landscape. But we believe it does not need to remain a minor one. With the support and generosity of artists from Australia and overseas, we were able to present ikebana to a much wider audience and show that it can be more than a personal practice or hobby.
t is a meaningful art form with the power to connect people, inspire new perspectives, and contribute to society.As I mentioned in my opening remarks, our aims were simple:
To bring ikebana to more people.
To let people experience ikebana like never before.
We deeply value and respect ikebana as a personal practice. At the same time, we believe its possibilities extend far beyond the individual. Ikebana can create connections between people and cultures, deepen our appreciation of nature and beauty, and make a meaningful contribution to the cultural life of our society.
The response from our visitors has been especially encouraging. In addition to the strong attendance, we were pleased to hear that many people found the festival a warm, welcoming and joyful experience. Visitors appreciated not only the beauty of the ikebana works, but also the atmosphere of openness and connection that the event created.
We believe this is important. Introducing people to ikebana is not only about showing them beautiful arrangements. It is also about creating an experience that allows them to feel connected — to nature, to art, to other people, and perhaps to something they had never encountered before.
We do not believe that our approach is the only way, nor necessarily the best way, to bring ikebana into a new era. There are many possible paths, and we hope this festival will encourage artists and organisations to explore them.
However, the response from the public — both the 876 people who came through the festival doors and the warmth of the feedback we received — suggests that there is genuine interest in ikebana and a real opportunity to take it further.
Perhaps this is only the beginning. The future of ikebana can start here.

出展作家の皆様このたびは、メルボルンいけばなフェスティバル2026に作品をご出展いただき、誠にありがとうございました。おかげさまで、フェスティバルには876名の方々にご来場いただき、当初の目標を上回る結果となりました。
現在のオーストラリアにおいて、いけばなは、現代の芸術・文化の中でまだ大きな位置を占めているとは言えません。しかし、私たちは、いけばながこれからも小さな存在にとどまり続ける必要はないと考えています。
オーストラリア国内、そして海外から参加してくださった多くの作家の皆様のご支援とご厚意によって、いけばなをこれまで以上に幅広い方々に紹介し、いけばなが単なる個人の趣味や習い事にとどまらないものであることを示すことができました。
いけばなには、人と人をつなぎ、新たな視点を生み出し、社会に貢献する力を持つ、意味のある芸術としての可能性があります。私が開会の挨拶でもお話ししたように、今回のフェスティバルで私たちが目指したことは、シンプルなものでした。
いけばなを、より多くの人々に届けること。
これまでにない形で、いけばなを体験してもらうこと。
私たちは、いけばなが一人ひとりのための大切な個人的な実践であることを、深く尊重しています。同時に、その可能性は個人の楽しみをはるかに超えるものだと考えています。いけばなは、人と人、そして異なる文化をつなぎ、自然や美への理解を深め、現代社会の文化的な営みに意義ある貢献をすることができるのではないでしょうか。
そして、今回の来場者の皆様から寄せられた反応は、私たちにとって特に励みとなるものでした。876名という多くの方々にご来場いただいただけでなく、多くの方から、フェスティバルが温かく、親しみやすく、楽しい体験だったという声をいただきました。来場者の皆様は、いけばなの作品そのものの美しさだけでなく、会場に生まれた開かれた雰囲気や、人とのつながりを感じられる空気も楽しんでくださったようです。
私たちは、これはとても大切なことだと考えています。
いけばなを人々に知ってもらうということは、単に美しい作品を見てもらうことだけではありません。自然と、芸術と、人と、そして、もしかするとこれまで出会ったことのなかった何かと、自分自身がつながっていると感じられるような体験をつくることでもあるのだと思います。
もちろん、私たちのアプローチが唯一の方法だとは考えていません。また、必ずしも最善の方法だとも考えていません。いけばなを新しい時代へとつないでいく道は、きっと一つではありません。このフェスティバルが、作家の皆様やさまざまな団体に、新しい可能性を考え、探っていただくきっかけとなれば幸いです。
しかし、今回の来場者の反応、つまり、876名の方々が実際に会場を訪れてくださったこと、さらに私たちが受け取った温かい感想を考えると、いけばなには確かな関心があり、より多くの人々へ届けていけるという大きな可能性があることを感じています。
もしかすると、これはまだ始まりにすぎないのかもしれません。いけばなの未来は、ここから始まるのかもしれません。
私たちは、この新たな一歩に皆様が参加してくださったことに、心より感謝しています。皆様の創造性、寛大なお力添え、そして私たちを信頼してくださったことなくして、このフェスティバルは実現できませんでした。
改めまして、メルボルンいけばなフェスティバル2026を支えてくださり、また、作品を通してこのフェスティバルに参加してくださったことに、心より御礼申し上げます。
今回、私たちは、いけばながより多くの人々に届き、より幅広い人々に語りかけ、心に残る体験を生み出し、そして現代オーストラリアの文化の中で確かな役割を果たしていけることを、ともに示すことができました。
